THE BRIEF

NEPAD CLIMATE CHANGE

The NEPAD Climate Change Fund needed to create a climate change citizens education campaign targeting rural women, traditional leaders and institutions. This was part of meeting Africa’s aspirations as articulated in Agenda 2063 and Sustainable Development Goals.

There is consensus that engaging communities using their indigenous languages increases their level of understand and participation. The goal was to educate citizens about the impact of climate change, adaption, and mitigation strategies.

Through the campaign, we capacitated 700 Traditional Council members in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa on issues of climate change and committed to minimizing practices contributing to climate change in their communities. In addition, the campaign engaged and distribute content to communities in vernacular languages that are under served and most affected by climate change.
